The land is not separate from us but integrally woven into our being. The first story of Creation in Genesis has the Creator mold us in God’s image, but not from a separate material. The carbon in our bones is that of the soil and the water in our cells is that which flows in lakes, moss, and forest. The invitation God extends to us is the invitation to live as a part of this whole Creation rather than its master. The God of justice demonstrates a flattening of power in the created world, a mutuality which is a blueprint for the realm of God. When we live into this part of our created nature, we can discover a path laid in love.
