Walter Scott is a 180-acre Camp and Learning Center with beautiful forests, our scenic lake, hiking trails, and flexible lodging and meeting accommodations.

We encourage all day-visitors (hikers, walkers, fishers, bird watchers, etc.) to purchase a day or season usage pass and beginning January 1, 2023 require all day-visitors to have a waiver on file with us. These policies are in place to ensure everyone’s safety and help maintain the grounds for generations to come. Stop by the office or call/message us (501) 570-6685 to get setup.

  • Day Pass – $5
  • Family Day Pass – $10
  • Season Pass – $50
  • Family Season Pass – $75
  • Friends of Walter Scott – No Charge

Friends of Walter Scott is defined as volunteers who work for a full day on the grounds during the year as a volunteer at workdays, doing other maintenance tasks, volunteering with CCIW camps, volunteering in the kitchen, or other similar volunteer efforts at the discretion of the camp host.

Please note that passes exclude when the full grounds have been reserved by other groups as noted on our calendar and all day-use requires adherence with our policies.

Hiking

Currently Walter Scott has two marked hiking trails, the “Frog Pond” trail and “Skunk Trail”. The Frog Pond trail is roughly 1 mile round trip and culminates at “the Frog Pond”, one of the furthest Northern Cypress swamps in Illinois. The Skunk Trail (no actual skunks) is 0.8 miles round trip (ending at a lake overlook). Further trails are planned in our future, so stay tuned!

Fishing

Lake Walter Scott is a roughly 23 acre lake which contains bass, bluegill, croppie and other types of fish. A boat launch is available along with a cleaning station on the main camp drive, just before the dam. Fishing is open to volunteers, donors, guests, campers, and staff.

Other Lake Usage

Lake Walter Scott allows for other water activities. While swimming is not allowed, we do have several canones, paddle boats, kayaks, and paddle boards which are available either for guests or day use.

Disc Golf

While a permanent disc golf course is in our future, we currently have five moveable goals that can be positioned around the grounds. These are available for our guests to use or day use.
