Designated Gifts Policy for The Walter Scott Camp & Learning Center

 

Policy Statement:

The Walter Scott Camp & Learning Center acknowledges and appreciates the generosity of individuals, groups, and organizations that support its mission through designated gifts. To ensure clarity and consistency in the acceptance of these gifts, the following policy has been established.

Scope:

This policy applies to all designated gifts, including but not limited to monetary donations, tangible goods, and services, offered to The Walter Scott Camp & Learning Center.

Gift Acceptance Authority:

The decision to accept or decline designated gifts shall rest with the Resident Minister and Caretaker of The Walter Scott Camp & Learning Center, in collaboration with the Camp Advisory Board. The Camp Advisory Board serves in an advisory capacity to review and provide recommendations on the acceptance of designated gifts, considering their alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and operational needs.

Criteria for Acceptance:

  1. Consistency with Mission: Gifts must align with the mission, vision, and values of The Walter Scott Camp & Learning Center.
  1. Operational Feasibility: The organization must have the capability to utilize the gift effectively and efficiently for its intended purpose.
  1. Legal and Ethical Considerations: Gifts must comply with all relevant laws and ethical standards governing charitable organizations.

Process for Gift Acceptance:

  1. Proposal Submission: Donors or prospective donors may propose designated gifts to the Resident Minister and Caretaker, providing relevant details about the gift and its intended purpose. Alternatively, organizations donating may request a project proposal from The Walter Scott Camp & Learning Center, outlining specific needs or initiatives that align with their philanthropic goals.
  2. Review and Recommendation: The Resident Minister and Caretaker, in consultation with the Camp Advisory Board, will review the proposed gift to determine its suitability based on the established criteria.
  3. Decision: After review, a decision will be made whether to accept or decline the designated gift. Factors considered include the impact on the organization, alignment with strategic goals, and capacity to manage and utilize the gift effectively.
  4. Notification: The donor will be promptly informed of the decision regarding their designated gift proposal.

Restricted Gifts:

Designated gifts may be accepted with restrictions, provided they comply with the organization’s policies and do not impose undue administrative or financial burden.

Acknowledgment and Recognition:

The Walter Scott Camp & Learning Center will acknowledge and recognize donors of designated gifts in accordance with its donor recognition policies, ensuring appropriate appreciation and stewardship.

Review and Revision:

This designated gifts policy shall be reviewed periodically by the Resident Minister and Caretaker, in collaboration with the Camp Advisory Board, to ensure its effectiveness and relevance. Amendments may be made as necessary to reflect changes in organizational needs or regulatory requirements.

Effective Date:

This policy shall be effective upon approval by the Camp Advisory Board and will guide the acceptance of designated gifts at The Walter Scott Camp & Learning Center.
