Reflection:
Often, our perspective can limit our view. From this photo of the lake, you can see the surface of the water and the trees and shrubbery around it. Perhaps you can even infer the light breeze from the ripples across the surface. However, this is only what our eyes see in a snapshot. It misses the birds that fish here at dawn, the deer that drink from the lake in late afternoon, and the night time creatures that venture to its banks. Our glimpse does not see through the surface of the water to the fish that live within, the eggs they have laid, nor the ways they engage in a continual dance around one another. We do not have sight great enough with just our eyes to even begin to notice the microscopic life, an incalculable number of beings contained within the millions of gallons of water of the lake. All of these are within this picture and this place, regardless of our ability to notice them. Today, be open to all that is beyond what we can see – our vision is limited as is our ability to take in the perspectives of others. Be gentle in caring for God’s Creation, a Creation that includes all of us.
