Reflection:
“In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree… In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity” (In the Bulb There is a Flower). Where the invasive and exotic plants have been removed at Walter Scott, the forest floor is flush with this little native flower – called by some Spring Beauty, its whimsical name is fairy spud. Fairy spud not only is beautiful in its whites and pinks popping through leaf litter, but it also serves as an early food source for pollinators and at times has sustained human communities with its small, but potato-like roots. It is difficult to imagine what is beyond our immediate reality – only a week ago the ground bore no hint of the Spring Beauty to come – and yet new beginnings and infinity are constantly before us. As the season of Lent ends and the Resurrection is brought to the forefront of our memories once more, be prepared for all that is to emerge from unexpected places. God is moving, and there is whimsy in that movement.
