Available Project Spotlight: Removing Invasive Species

Did you know that tree growth can be stunted over 50% by invasive species taking away nutrients and water? The honeysuckle, autumn olive, and multiflora rose in our woods put out their leaves before the native plants and trees and hold on to them afterwards, giving them an advantage. This can lead to disease and death of trees over time.

This is a project which is ongoing and requires work in sections. It can be taken on by a single person or a group. For those who are comfortable, we have a battery powered chainsaw and sawzall to deal with the larger invasive plants. These invasive plants are widespread throughout our forest, so you would focus on a specific section rather than taking on our full 160 acres of woods. While the goats are making great headway, this project will go faster if we go at it together! We’ll even make you an honorary goat for taking on this project!

Full instructions can be found on our adopt-a-project list at CampWalterScott.org/workdays. You can send us a message if you’re interested in “adopting” this project here or via call/text at 501-570-6685 so we can schedule a time for you to help.
This is a sacred space to many we are privileged to care for together.
