We made a new compost bin at Walter Scott this last week and it took only 15 minutes! Using heat treated pallets and reused twine from hay bales, we lashed together the pallets at top and bottom to make a square. This compost bin is located closer to our main hall (while not directly adjacent to keep wildlife at a distance). Food that breaks down in a compost bin correctly doesn’t smell, creates fertile soil for use in gardens, and doesn’t create methane like food in landfills that warms up our common home. If you’re looking for simple ways to Care Gently for God’s Creation, try composting at home – it’s a great way to get started and then try bringing it to a church or another community location near you. We even compost our brown paper towels!
